Revision Bariatric Surgery

At New Life Surgical Associates, we use state of the art technology and innovative approaches to providing the highest quality of patient care.  For patients who are morbidly overweight, or have other medical complications due to obesity, they may elect to have bariatric surgery.  Bariatric surgery, also known as weight loss surgery, can effectively reduce a patient’s weight by up to 60%-80%. While many of our patients have tremendous success with their weight loss package, there are always some risks involved.

While the risks are low for most procedures, some patients may suffer complications from their surgery or the surgery in itself doesn’t prove to be effective. In that case, revision surgery may be recommended.

Revisional bariatric surgery can be performed on the patients who had bariatric surgery earlier and it turned to be ineffective because of the following conditions:

  • Postoperative Complications
  • Inadequate results
  • Regaining the weight after losing weight for a certain period
  • Ineffective resolution of co-diseases like diabetes or hypertension.

Due to the additional risks involved in Revisional Surgery, your doctor will need to consider all the associated risks and benefits.  Not all patients with a prior unsuccessful surgery can opt for revision surgery.  Consult with your doctor to see if this revision surgery is suitable for you.
